Construction Dumpster Size Guide: What's the Best for Your Money?

Jul 08, 2022

Whether you are a general contractor commencing a new construction project or a homeowner carrying out some DIY work , a rental dumpster can be your best friend.

Every building or renovation project creates waste material that needs to be disposed of. At Payless Rolloff, we provide reliable dumpster rental services to both general contractors and the general public in New Mexico.

Construction dumpsters are a key addition to any work project, allowing your or your team to remove waste material quickly and conveniently. A rental dumpster speeds up projects and removes the hassle of disposing of the waste yourself. Additionally, a rental dumpster ensures that a project site is kept clean and makes for an overall better work environment.

Before ordering a rental dumpster for your upcoming project, it's important to understand the different available sizes. Choosing the best size for your specific needs can help you save money and time.

In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at various rental dumpster sizes — 10, 20, 30, and 40 cubic yards as well as our nine cubic yard concrete washout bin.

10 Cubic Yard Dumpster

Measuring 11' x 8' x 4', our 10 cubic yard dumpsters are able to hold up to two tons of material. They are suitable for heavy materials, such as concrete, as well as smaller landscape project debris.

This dumpster size is useful for maintenance clean-up, small-scale construction projects, and small-scale excavations. It has a capacity equal to approximately three pickup truck loads, making it a convenient option for both commercial and residential projects.

Its smaller size makes it practical for driveways and locations where space is limited.

20 Cubic Yard Dumpster

This dumpster size is capable of holding up to three tons, measuring 20' x 8' x 4'. Its larger size makes it perfect for a range of projects, including smaller home renovation and modeling projects. This dumpster option is great for roof tear-offs, shed and garage demolition, and floor replacement projects.

The 20 cubic yard dumpster has a capacity of approximately six pickup truck loads and, given its relatively compact size, is one of the most popular dumpster options we sell. A great option for both commercial and residential projects.

30 Cubic Yard Dumpster

Measuring 20' x 8' x 6' in size, our 30 cubic yard roll-off dumpster can hold up to four tons, making it a great option for larger projects. This size is perfect for large volume yard waste, new home construction, and large-scale landscaping projects.

With a capacity equivalent to approximately nine pickup truck loads, this option is excellent for a wide range of commercial projects that create a lot of waste and debris.

40 Cubic Yard Dumpster

Equivalent to approximately 12 pickup truck loads, the 40 cubic yard roll-off dumpster is the king of handling large-scale projects. Measuring 22' x 8' x 8x, this dumpster is appropriate for projects that create a high volume of waste and debris.

It is especially suited to new home constructions, large volume yard waste, commercial construction, building demolitions, and disaster cleanups. If your upcoming project is going to produce a large amount of waste material, the 40 cubic yard dumpster is an effective and extremely cost-efficient solution.

Concrete Washout Bins

Concrete washout bins are a requirement on construction sites when pouring cement, in order to avoid harmful washout from becoming an environmental hazard. Holding nine cubic yards, our concrete washers are emptied at a concrete recycling company.

Tips to Renting Dumpsters for Your Project

Dumpster rental is an excellent way to save time and money on your construction or residential project. Here, we will highlight four useful ways to ensure that you get the most value from your rental dumpster.

Avoid Over-Sizing Your Project

Before you commence your project, be sure to estimate the amount of waste material that will be created.

Having a good idea of the size of your project beforehand means you can save by not renting a dumpster that is unnecessarily large. A dumpster that is too large could also take up more space than necessary on your project site.

Avoid Under-Sizing Your Project

Here, the reverse is true. Should you undersize your project and end up going over the maximum specified weight, you will incur a fee. To avoid this extra hassle, ensure that you have estimated every item that will need to be disposed of before ordering your dumpster.

Order Your Dumpster On Time

On a construction site, time is money. A nightmare scenario for any project manager is their staff working on a project without any place to dispose of waste materials.

Either your project will stall or your team will need to find different ways to dispose of the waste. By ordering on time, you'll avoid any unforeseen hassle. We are usually able to deliver dumpsters the same day, though it helps to order in advance to avoid frustration.
